Flight Collection – American White Ibis

white_ibis_david_ryan_dsc_0064One of the trending home decor colors in 2016 is pink. Pink was one of the colors used in the third rug in the collection (Cassin’s Finch) and I could not resist using it again when I saw a photograph of the striking American White Ibis bird. Hence, the fourth rug in the Flight Collection is the American White Ibis.

The American White Ibis bird lives along the Eastern United States coast, from North Carolina to Texas and along the northwestern South American coast. Its diet consists primarily of crabs, crayfish, fish, snakes, frogs, and insects.

I experimented with a new method for making the American White Ibis rug. First, I crocheted a net and then I crocheted across the grid. I encountered a few surprises. As a result, the rug will not be posted for sale in my Etsy shop, Crochet x Knit. Not one to be easily deterred, I will use the same method in a slightly different way to crochet the next rug in the collection – Yellowish Flycatcher.
